Sucupira

Strong, hard wood, commonly used in flooring. Brown to reddish-brown colour heartwood. The sapwood is narrow, yellow to white and clearly demarcated from the heartwood.

Colour/Appearance

Brown to reddish-brown colour heartwood. The sapwood is narrow, yellow to white and clearly demarcated from the heartwood. 

Grain/Texture

Coarse, uneven grain often interlocked.

Endgrain

Diffuse-porous; large pores in no specific arrangement.

Rot Resistance

Rated as very durable to rot resistance, only moderately resistance to drywood termite attack.

Workability

Moderately difficult to work with, saws easily but can be somwehat difficult to plane due to the irregular grain. Can be very splintery, care should be taken when handling raw wood.

Odor

No distinctive odor.

Allergies/Toxicity

Sucupira has been reported to cause skin irritation.

Pricing/Availability

Moderately priced  lumber and fair availability. 

Sustainability

This wood species is not listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
